How far before the sealing jaws should the powder dose finish?

There is no fixed distance or time that applies to every machine. The dose must finish early enough for product to fall and settle before the seal area reaches the jaws. Can extraction near a VFFS bag mouth pull product out of the dose?

Yes, if airflow is excessive or badly positioned. Extraction should capture released dust without disturbing the product stream, changing the dose or collapsing the bag. Prove the airflow with the actual powder and film during commissioning rather than treating the extraction port as an isolated accessory.

What proves a VFFS powder pack is acceptable besides fill weight?

Check seal cleanliness and integrity using the approved method, bag dimensions, code quality, registration, appearance, leakage where applicable and performance after realistic handling. Record start-up, refill and restart packs as well as the stable run.

Review a VFFS powder application

Treat dose, film and seal as one VFFS cycle.

A VFFS powder pack is complete only when the correct dose is inside a correctly formed, coded and sealed bag that can leave the machine without damage. A dosing reference cannot be used as the bagging rate when film draw, jaw dwell, settling or discharge is slower.

Match the dosing profile to the bag geometry.

Record forming-set dimensions, film structure and width, finished bag length, usable fill volume, headspace and the position of the product during jaw closure. Fine or aerated powder may need additional settling time or a different fill-height and extraction arrangement.

Inspect the seal as well as the weight.

Retain seal appearance, contamination observations, temperature and dwell settings, coding quality and any destructive or leak test required by the pack specification. A bag within weight tolerance is not saleable if the seal or code is unacceptable.

VFFS or premade sack

When is an industrial sack-filling route more suitable than VFFS?

Choose VFFS when forming and sealing bags from roll film is the intended production method. Choose an open-mouth or valve sack route when the pack is supplied premade and needs a filling spout, bag clamp, support conveyor and separate closing process. The powder, target weight, bag construction, accepted output and palletising route decide the practical boundary.
